The Path of the 13 Churches – Discover the Green Heart of the Amalfi Coast
If you’re looking to escape the crowded and over-promoted tourist routes of the Amalfi Coast, the Path of the 13 Churches in Tramonti is an unforgettable experience. This 18-kilometer circular trail takes you deep into the inland soul of the coast — far from the beaches and bustling promenades — into a world of chestnut forests, terraced vineyards, ancient churches, and quiet stone villages.
Tramonti is not a town with a central square or historic core. Instead, it’s a “scattered municipality” made up of 13 distinct hamlets, each with its own identity, traditions, and most importantly, its own church — which gives the trail its name.
Designed and marked by the Italian Alpine Club (CAI), the path connects 11 of these hamlets, following ancient routes once used by locals to travel between villages. It’s a perfect hike for those who want to explore a more authentic, rural side of the Amalfi Coast — where time slows down, and every stop offers a new story, a scenic view, or a chance to meet the locals.
Along the way, you’ll find fresh spring water, small cafés, and family-run shops where you can buy local food and wine. Each village reveals a piece of the region’s history, and every church — from a rock chapel dating back to the 8th century to Baroque sanctuaries with ceramic floors — offers a unique window into the past.
Whether you’re passionate about hiking, history, or simply want to discover a hidden gem of the Amalfi Coast, the Path of the 13 Churches is a journey worth taking.
