Amalfi Coast Map & Travel Guide 2026: Plan Your Journey Like a Local
Welcome to the most practical guide to the Amalfi Coast. Planning a trip here is more than just picking a hotel; it’s about understanding the unique vertical geography of our land. Whether you are looking for the fastest way to get here or the most scenic route, this page provides all the essential tools and insider tips to organize your perfect Italian getaway.
How to Get Here (The Insider’s Logistics)
Arriving from Naples Airport (Capodichino): While Naples is the closest major airport, reaching the Coast from there can be complex. We recommend taking a high-speed train to Salerno Station (the best-connected gateway) or booking a Private Transfer (NCC) for a stress-free arrival directly at your hotel.
Arriving from Salerno Airport (Costa d’Amalfi): If you land in Salerno, you are at the doorstep of the Coast. You have three excellent options:
- The Scenic Route (Recommended): Reach the Port of Salerno and hop on a Ferry. This is the best way to start your vacation: seeing the Coast from the sea is a breathtaking experience, following the same routes used by ancient merchants and navigators for millennia.
- The VIP Experience: Rent a Private Motorboat with a professional skipper from Salerno’s Marina. This allows you to explore the most beautiful hidden coves and crystal-clear beaches before being dropped off at the nearest pier to your hotel.
Local Transport: You can also use the SITA Bus service or a private transfer for a direct road connection.
Explore the Towns (Every Village has a Soul)
The Amalfi Coast is a mosaic of 13 unique towns, each with its own personality and ancient traditions. To truly understand the spirit of this territory, we recommend exploring our dedicated guides for each destination:
- [Amalfi]: The historic heart of the Coast and former Maritime Republic. Don’t miss the majestic Cathedral and the Paper Museum.
- [Positano]: The “Vertical City,” world-famous for its colorful houses, steep stairways, and high-end fashion boutiques.
- [Ravello]: Perched 350 meters above sea level, it is the “City of Music,” offering the most breathtaking views from the gardens of Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone.
- [Atrani]: One of the smallest and most picturesque villages in Italy. This perfectly preserved medieval jewel is where the Doges of the Amalfi Republic were once officially crowned.
- [Praiano]: The true heart of the coast. Known for its incredible sunsets and the artistic “NaturArte” project, it’s a paradise for trekking lovers.
- [Furore]: Famous for its spectacular Fiordo, a narrow gorge where the sea meets the mountains, hosting one of the most iconic bridges in the world.
- [Maiori & Minori]: These sister towns offer the widest beaches on the coast and are the undisputed capitals of local pastry and Mediterranean flavors.
- [Vietri sul Mare]: The gateway to the Coast, world-renowned for its vibrant hand-painted ceramics that decorate every corner of the town.
- [Cetara]: A traditional fishing village largely untouched by mass tourism. It preserves an authentic maritime soul and is famous for its “Colatura di Alici” (anchovy sauce).
- [Tramonti]: The “Green Heart” of the Coast. A scattered community in the mountains above Amalfi, offering cool breezes, ancient vineyards, and chestnut woods.
- [Scala]: The oldest town on the Coast. It offers peace, lush nature, and authenticity far from the crowds. Located right above Amalfi and next to Ravello, it is the ideal base for hikers.
- [Conca dei Marini]: A quiet corner of paradise, home to the magical Emerald Grotto and the famous “Sfogliatella Santa Rosa” pastry.
